About This Quote

This quote was written by the poet and novelist Naomi Shihab Nye in her book, "The Orchardist," which won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2009. In it, the narrator, who is a former lover of the main character, thinks back on how he and his lover got together and how their relationship ended. The narrator explains that while people may be willing to give up a girl to a man for sex and other physical pleasures, they would never do so for love.
